Bob Sarti's Yippies In Love: First Exposure...

Get ready for Yippies In Love...

A short while ago, Theatre In the Raw staged two workshop presentations of its latest work in progress, Yippies In Love, a new musical written by Bob Sarti.

Musical director and composer, Bill Sample was at the keys and artistic director Jay Hamburger at the helm, while the talented actors Steve Maddock, Danielle St. Pierre, Anna Baignoche and Jason Logan were on board singing, dancing and drumming as Bob's new script was exposed to an audience of over a hundred for the first time.

The Blaine Invasion Archive Poster...A contingent of original Vancouver Yippies - some featured in the script - were there to ensure the authenticity of the story.

Judging by the enthusiastic discussion afterwards critics agree that the show has legs, although there were suggestions of course, for further development.

"I was concerned about how it would work." says Sarti. "You never know who is going to show up, or how they are going to take it. So, I knew I had to develop a thick skin going in. It seemed like there was a lot more to be done, and I was daunted but then I thought about all the comments and was back rewriting before the second reading." Sarti said at a post-workshop gathering.

Helen Dempster, a literacy instructor at Douglas College noted that, "many young people, don't appreciate that they can be involved in their community, or if they think about it, they don't know how to go about it or how powerful that contribution can be. I would love to bring a class to this show because it will encourage debate."
