Summer Welcome from Kitchen Porch!
Summer has finally arrived on Martha’s Vineyard! Strawberries are available and the rose bushes are in full bloom, these two are so closely related and for me, it’s the true beginning of summer.
Last week we started working on recipes for our new line of locally-sourced products, making fresh ketchup, sweet relish (so we will be ready when the gardens are abundant with cucumbers, tomatoes and apricots!) for the start of the island farmer’s market this Saturday! We are looking forward to introducing these and other new products throughout the summer, but will certainly be bringing back some old favorites (popovers, anyone?). Some of the other things you can look forward to this year include a handful of shelf-stable products, made-to-order coffee, and a line of truffle cheeses filled with locally-inspired cream.
As families gather for early summer celebrations, our kitchen is busy providing the sustenance to make these events even more memorable. Graduation provides the chance to celebrate the end of one journey and the start of the next chapter - an inspiring time for all to embrace. Father’s Day offers an opportunity for Dads to take a break from the grill! Let us do the work – with so many delicious options, it’s hard to resist.
We are especially excited to introduce another great offering this summer, which is our prepared meals service. Every weekend night in June, and then every night in July and August, Robert and I will be whipping up delicious locally-sourced meals for you and your family! These fully prepared two to three course meals can be picked up at our kitchen OR dropped off at your door. Prices per meal range from $25-$55.
Culinary Experiences is in full swing again this summer season. Our calendar is packed with fun, informative classes & workshops for foodies of all ages. Join me every Monday during the summer as I offer a rotating series of classes from making your own Kombucha, Raw Foods, Seasonal Cleanses, and tours of local farms.
Based on the popularity of our week-long Spring Cleanse, I’ll be teaming up again with Sherry Sidoti and Dardy Slavin for three separate weeks of purification & revitalizing cleanses this summer! First begins July 11th. In addition, we have expanded our Custom Experience offerings this year as well. Our latest Custom Event took place this past weekend as we hosted an inspiring Team Building Experience for a private group from Rhode Island, offering a class on preparing traditional New England fare. Participants learned about the history of local cuisines and then prepared a wonderful meal of fresh seafood, grilled corn, steamed lobsters, homemade ice cream and strawberry shortcake. The options for our Custom Event offerings are endless - let us know what you’d like to see!
This morning I set some intentions on what I hope to have this summer for myself and family and it includes beach time, early mornings with my favorite farmers, cooking whatever the boys bring home over the fire pits, and enjoying this beautiful island.
