Nature Nights: Snakes
Free Admission all day Thursday

They look slithery and scary, but they do good things for us and the environment. Get up close and personal with live snake presentations from Austin Reptile Service from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. At 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. learn about common Central Texas snakes and how few of them are actually venomous from Travis LaDuc, PhD., assistant curator of herpetology for The University of Texas at Austin Natural Science Center. Honoring Our Founder
July 24, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Tribute Day honors the Wildflower Center's founder, Lady Bird Johnson, with a free day of family activities including the children's play, "Wildflowers," by the ZACH Theatre Company at
11 a.m. in the auditorium. In this delightful play, the wildflowers are in bloom and adventurous young Lady Bird is exploring the woods near her home. Join her as she discovers the beauty of planting a seed and how to make our country a better place. Other activities include:

  • Storytelling in the Little House at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
  • Docent tour of the gardens, 10 a.m.
  • "Wildflowers," a children's play by ZACH Theatre about the young Lady Bird Johnson. In the auditorium, 11 a.m to noon.
  • Lucas Miller, the "singing zoologist" who is also an author and songwriter, sings children's nature songs. In the auditorium, 1 to 2 p.m.

Sara Hickman Concert for Kids
1 p.m., Wednesday, July 20

Texas State Musician Sara Hickman, a specialist in singing songs for children of all ages, presents a concert for kids and families at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium. Hickman has produced and recorded three albums for kids, including songs she wrote herself. An Austin singer who regularly wows adult audiences as well, Hickman's special mission is raising awareness of arts education programs in Texas. General admission to the Wildflower Center provides access to the free concert.
