Vida's Summer Health Update
In This Issue:
Thank you to Perinatal Partners in Health and the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments.
Vida enjoyed participation in both conferences this past spring. We are looking forward to the AWHONN Convention in September. We hope to see you there!
Managing Environmental Risks in Pregnancy Online Course:
The online course for prenatal providers is nearing completion. Pilot testing is anticipated to take place in September. Formal evaluation of the course will begin in October.
All Babies Cry:
Vida's research team is preparing the evaluation of the three-part All Babies Cry media package for new parents. We plan to recruit over 400 new parents from partnering birth centers to participate in our evaluation. In three interviews, we will measure their knowledge and behavior surrounding infant crying and their own parental stress.
After School Gets Moving:
After School Gets Moving has spent the spring filming! Eager students, skilled Playworks Coaches and enthusiastic game facilitators worked closely with the Vida crew to film over 12 games for our Game Guide. We are also in the process of interviewing experts in the physical education and youth development fields and coordinating with NIOST to provide a comprehensive evaluation.
Keep up with the latest

A Message from Barbara Costa, I’m very excited to join Vida Health Communications, as Project Manager on a course we’re producing for nurses about workplace violence. ![]()
Funded by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)/National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), this web-based curriculum will help nurses identify, prevent, and respond to violence where they work, as well as to encourage them to advocate for change at the policy level. In addition to text and graphics, we will use video elements – interviews with experts, testimonials from nurses about their own experiences, and dramatic reenactments of case studies – to illuminate some essential behaviors and situations. We are currently writing scripts and receiving valuable feedback from expert academics and practitioners.
In my career to date, I’ve worked on other educational projects for nurses, as well as a range of films, videos, web sites, and events for the general public, generally about science/technology and health/medicine topics. I look forward to getting to the video production stage, and to making this much needed course a reality. Your Green Guide to Pregnancy - Professional Edition Now Available! Your Green Guide to Pregnancy is designed to help prenatal healthcare providers and educators teach women how to reduce their risk of exposure to environmental toxins during pregnancy. Vida’s newest release continues to receive honors! Your Green Guide to Pregnancy has been awarded a Gold Remi at the 43rd Annual WorldFest- Houston International Film Festival in patient education, a certificate of excellence in education at the U.S. International Film & Video Festival and a Telly statuette for excellence in the Health and Wellness category. Your Green Guide to Pregnancy has also received an award from The Health and Science Communications Association (HeSCA) 2010 Media Festival for excellence in the Patient Education category. HeSCA is an association of communications professionals committed to sharing knowledge and resources in the health and science arenas. The Your Green Guide to Pregnancy video on DVD provides safe, practical strategies to reduce exposures across these primary areas: • environmental tobacco smoke• beauty treatments and personal care products • exposures in the home • food safety and healthy eating
The video features a diverse cast; program content is presented at middle school literacy level. The DVD contains two separate versions of the program in English and Spanish; both are closed-captioned and can be looped for continuous play in clinic waiting areas. Dear Vida,
On behalf of the MAMI clinic in La Romana, Dominican Republic we would like to thank you for your donation of Works of Wonder. One of our focuses in the MAMI this year has been improving our educational program for our pregnant patients. We give educational talks in the waiting room on nutrition during pregnancy, breastfeeding, caring for a newborn, labor and delivery, family planning for after pregnancy, and HIV and STI prevention. The video we received from Vida amplified our education that we’re giving on labor and delivery.
Vida Health Communications, Inc. is dedicated to improving the health of women, children and families through the production of evidence-based educational media for clinical, patient and lay audiences. |
