Arizona Gives Day raises $2.74 million for nonprofits statewide

Arizona Gives Day, the grassroots, statewide day of giving that invites Arizonans to support their favorite causes, raised $2.74 million for nonprofits on April 4, 2017. Hosted by the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits and Arizona Grantmakers Forum, and presented by FirstBank, Arizona Gives Day has now helped raise more than $10.14 million for Arizona nonprofits since its founding in 2013. Arizona Grantmakers Forum welcomes new members, Ibis Foundation of Arizona and The Burton Family Foundation

AGF is proud to add the IBIS Foundation and the Burton Family Foundation to its roster. The Ibis Foundation of Arizona provides project-specific grants to organizations that serve low-income populations with focuses on health and education. Denise Higgins serves as vice president and trustee.

The Burton Family Foundation, a support organization of the Arizona Community Foundation, provides funding for a range of programs, primarily those that facilitate education and career advancement opportunities with an emphasis on support for vulnerable populations

Flinn-Brown Academy applications due May 15

The Arizona Center for Civic Leadership, a program of the Flinn Foundation, is seeking fellows for the Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy to assist high-potential leaders from all perspectives and walks of life to succeed as leaders in Arizona state government as policymakers. Learn more

First Things First CEO leaving Arizona for post with national venture philanthropy

First Things First Chief Executive Officer Sam Leyvas has resigned to accept a leadership position with Stand Together, a Washington, D.C.-based philanthropy that revitalizes communities and transforms lives by empowering individuals. His last day at FTF will be May 19. Read more


Arizona Community Foundation hires new chief brand and impact officer

Lisa A. Dancsok will become Arizona Community Foundation's chief brand and impact officer on May 15. She succeeds Megan Brownell, who had been with the foundation for 10 years before she was named senior director of communications for Banner Health Foundation. Dancsok comes to ACF from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, where she was vice president of marketing and communications and responsible for a communications program that advances the organization’s priority issues. Read more

Community Foundation for Southern Arizona launches Community Impact Calendar

In coordination with Southern Arizona Grantmakers, the Alliance for Arizona Nonprofits and Arizona Grantmakers Forum, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona has launched its first Community Impact Calendar The calendar will be distributed as a monthly e-newsletter and will live on the CFSA website. Individuals who would like to share upcoming technical opportunities with the nonprofit community are encouraged to submit them to Ana Tello at atello@cfsaz.org.


Labor's Community Service Agency wins Social Venture Partners Arizona's Innovator Award at 2017 Fast Pitch

Social Venture Partners Arizona awarded $25,000 and the SVP Innovator Award to Labor’s Community Service Agency and Stephen Sparks at the 2017 Fast Pitch competition last month. Chosen by a panel of partners from the SVPAZ network for the innovation and repeatability of the SHIFT program, Sparks and LCSA also will receive three years of SVPAZ partner time and talent to support capacity building. Read more


Valley of the Sun United Way's tutoring program uses technology to connect volunteers with students

Vello tutoring, a new program from Valley of the Sun United Way, helps first, second and third graders learn to read. Remote volunteers teach students by using screen-sharing technology from wherever they are located. Watch

Center for the Future of Arizona launches Beat the Odds School Leadership Academy

The Center for the Future of Arizona announced this week the launch of its Beat The Odds School Leadership Academy, a new resource available to traditional public school districts and charter school networks across the state. CFA leads the Beat The Odds School Leadership Academy and administers the program to enrolled participants. Read more 

Even Stevens sandwich shop to expand, partner with Arizona nonprofits

Even Stevens, a Utah-based restaurant that donates sandwich ingredients to nonprofit partners, is expanding its presence in Arizona with two locations in Scottsdale and Tucson. The Scottsdale location, which opened this week, is partnering with St. Mary’s Food Bank, A New Leaf East Valley Men’s Shelter, Family Promise of Greater Phoenix and Boys and Girls Club of Greater Phoenix. 

The Tucson location will open May 10 and is partnering with Community Food Bank, Tucson Neighborhood Food Pantry, Interfaith Community Services and St.Vincent De Paul. Read more
