A Moment to Reflect on Image Gently
and how We are Making a World of Difference
At its core, Image Gently (IG) is an assurance organization. It advocates careful consideration of the patient's clinical needs prior to selecting an appropriate imaging procedure (justification). When an imaging procedure involving x-rays is selected, the ultimate goal is to create good quality images or imaging guidance while properly managing the radiation dose to the patient. This is best achieved when appropriately trained staff members operate properly configured imaging equipment to address the unique requirements of pediatric imaging.

Consumer Reports: “The Value of an Alliance
The National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) and the American College of Radiology (ACR) are valued Image Gently® Alliance members. The ACR was a founding organization and the NCRP was one of the earliest Alliance members. Both organizations have a strong commitment to public information and welfare. The mission of the NCRP is to “To support radiation protection by providing independent scientific analysis, information, and recommendations that represent the consensus of leading scientist” The NCRP began in 1929 as the U.S. Advisory Committee on X-Ray and Radium Protection and was later established by an act of Congress in 1964.

Website Update
For the past year, Image Gently leaders have conducted a careful review of the Image Gently website, with a goal of ensuring we are providing the most needed information to our audiences in the most user-friendly and appealing way, the website will be revamped in the coming weeks.
Last Spring a brief input survey was sent to more than 100 individuals that included pledgers, parents, pediatric radiologists and other alliance contacts. We are happy to report that the majority of the feedback was positive but we also learned ways we can improve.

There have been millions of web views since the site’s inception, so keeping our community informed and up-to-date is our priority. Stay tuned!

RSNA Updates and Highlights
“Have you taken the Image Gently pledge?” this was the phrase that greeted the many booth visitors as we exhibited at the 2015 RSNA Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting held in Chicago on November 29 – December 3, 2015.

The annual Alliance meeting took place Monday, November 30th. Attendees included Image Gently leadership and more than 50 representatives of our 90+ Alliance affiliates. Topics discussed included a brief “year in review”, announcements of the upcoming Image Gently Head Trauma and pediatric cardiology campaigns and the 2015 Butterfly Award winners. The 2015 Butterfly Award winners were María del Rosario Perez, MD and Madan Rehani, PhD. They were recognized for their
leadership and global impact on improving the imaging care of children.

Andrew J. Einstein, MD, PhD of Columbia University spoke on the pediatric cardiology campaign concept. He, along with Kevin Hill, MD, of Duke University, will be the leaders of the forthcoming campaign.
