August 2016
Helping you make afterschool better!

Ban "Jitters" For Good
Get Stage Fright by Stan and Jan Berenstain is a classic that readers who have ever felt nervous can relate to. Eunice Cervantes, Quality Advisor, has coupled this book with a mindful exercise for a stress-free [after]school season!

Ready... Set...

The start of the new school year is just around the corner! Please take a look at our 2016 safety checklist. No additional requirements were added, however, we did clarify some best practices. Here's a preview:

√ At least one staff member is CPR certified on site during program hours.
√ All participant records are complete and include two emergency contact names and phone numbers
√ All staff are aware and keep a comprehensive list of participants with health concerns

Dallas Afterschool is looking forward to seeing your programs in action!

Interested In Increasing the Literacy Focus In Your Programming?
Dallas Afterschool and Commit! would like to engage with interested programs about providing a literacy development opportunity this year.

The opportunity would consist of access to free resources like iStation licenses, new books as well as staff training.

Participation would potentially include 6-8 meetings focused on using data to identify opportunities for student growth, professional development provided by literacy professionals, and sharing best practices within a peer group of afterschool providers. Interested programs should email  for more information.

 Tree Talk

Be on the lookout this school year for the new Wonder Kit, Tree Talk! In this Wonder Kit, students explore dendrochronology by examining a cross-section of a tree to determine it's age. But it doesn't stop there! Using a tree ring print out, students will then record their own life in tree rings to reflect on their personal journey and growth!  Click here for the 2016 Partner Catalog
