Join us for the launch of walkSTEM, a guided math walk through the Dallas Arts District!  These free walks are designed specifically to engage elementary and middle school-aged children and their families in learning how math is a relevant and dynamic part of our everyday surroundings.

We will kick off our initiative with a Pi Day Math Festival at Sammons Park at the AT&T Performing Arts Center from 10am - 1pm.

The festival will showcase the many ways in which math impacts our world - in art, in nature, in science and more. The 45 minute walks will leave from the festival throughout the event. Please register for your walk in advance. Open to families with kids of all ages, teachers, and interested grown-ups!

Expanded Learning Opportunity Lobby Day

txpost

The After the Bell Team participated in the Expanded Learning Opportunity Lobby Day on January 23rd. This is an annual event hosted by TxPOST to bring together advocates for Out of School Time Programming from across the state to meet with legislators. We had the opportunity to meet with the offices of Rep. Rafael Anchia (District 103), Sen. Royce West (District 23), Rep. Diego Bernal (District 123), and Rep. Jason Isaac's (District 45). Our team was also joined by a group of students who participate in afterschool programs.

Have you ever wondered how teen pregnancy rates have changed since the '90s, or how children's participation in arts programming affects their self-esteem? ChildTrends is a nonprofit research organization focused on youth and manages a databank of over 120 indicators of child well-being. These indicators span topics such as child welfare, health, poverty and inequality, and social-emotional learning. If the databank graphs spark your interest, ChildTrends also publishes frequent reports on current studies in the field for each topic.
