 Future Focus Summer Camp

FFC-Banner2017 2
Understanding options after high school graduation can be overwhelming, that’s why United Way partnered with the
Dallas Regional Chamber for the Future Focus Summer Camp. The camp seeks to serve 75 Dallas ISD students for two weeks each June.
During this two week, all – day camp experience, rising juniors and seniors in Dallas have the opportunity to create resumes,
practice mock interviews and explore careers via corporate site visits enabling adolescents to see how skills they are developing
translate into the real world. The camp is completely free to students.

Virtual College Prep
Seniors in seven area school districts can send and receive text messages about the college application process thanks to the dedication of area college advisors, counselors, and college admissions staff at 15 participating colleges and universities.
Parents can also sign up to receive text reminders in English or Spanish at participating districts.

OST Update.

The State of Texas

TxPost
(Texas Partnership for Out of School Time) is leading advocacy work on behalf of Out of School Time providers across Texas. As a result of our collective effort, Rep Ashby and Sen Hughes have sponsored a new OST bill, HB 2408/SB 1404. If passed, this bill would require all school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to report certain information regarding voluntary after-school programs and voluntary summer programs. This reporting would be done through the PEIMS system, which is managed by TEA.  Once passed, TEA would determine which specific types of programs would be included.

This is an exciting prospect for the OST community because we would have better knowledge about which children are accessing OST programming and which schools are better utilizing these opportunities. Until now, we have had to collect this information independently.

Protect afterschool choices

The Afterschool Alliance will draft a letter to send to your local representatives on your behalf. Two minute ask. Participate here
