GO-Biz Hosting Inaugural California Cyber Innovation Challenge at Sacramento City College
Eight Teams of High School Students from Sacramento Valley, Los Angeles, San Diego and the Bay Area Set to Showcase Their Expertise in High Pressure Cybersecurity Challenges
Sacramento, Calif. – As part of California’s continued leadership in cybersecurity, the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) is hosting the first-ever California Cyber Innovation Challenge (CCIC) at Sacramento City College. In this demonstration event, eight teams of high school students will complete a series of timed cybersecurity challenges, defend the integrity of computer networks and crack complex codes.
“California students will be on the front lines of defending our state’s cybersecurity,” said GO-Biz director Panorea Avdis. “This challenge showcases California’s commitment to proactively addressing the global cybersecurity skills gap.”

12:45 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. – Facebook Capture the Flag Cyber Challenge (Cafeteria)
5:45 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. – Awards Ceremony and Media Availability (Room Pac 106)
Media Availability and Visuals: Reporters can film the competition in the morning which is set up to look like a “Cybersecurity War Room,” interview the students and representatives from GO-Biz and film the final awards ceremony at 5:45 pm.
Background: GO-Biz is leading this inaugural challenge through the CyberCalifornia network, in partnership with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and the California Workforce Development Board. CyberCalifornia is a coalition of businesses, state agencies, and educational partners dedicated to reinforcing California’s leadership position in cybersecurity. This challenge showcases CyberCalifornia’s commitment to innovative education and workforce development programs. Sacramento City College is hosting the event on campus and other coalition leaders include the Sacramento Employment and Training Agency, the Foundation for California Community Colleges, Los Angeles Unified School District, California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo and Pomona, the Securing our eCity Foundation, the Air Force Association, CyberWatch West, Dun and Bradstreet, ForeScout, Facebook, and Cisco.
