"After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.'
"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'"
Matthew 25.19 - 21

The Stewardship of All Things

Normally when we think of stewardship we think of our responsibility to steward stuff, particularly our money. This Sunday, listening to Jesus' parable about the master who leaves his servants with some of his wealth, we will begin to explore what it means to be stewards of God's reign over the things God has blessed us with. I encourage you to read and reflect on Matthew 25.14-30 prior to our time together on Sunday.

Upcoming Events and Opportunities:

Youth Sunday:
If you missed Youth Sunday this past Sunday, you can listen to what you missed (including their readers' theater account of living in exile and a song written and performed by Sarah Peterson) on the Valley Church website here. Thanks again to our amazing youth for leading us in worship and opening up to us about their journey through exile, and thanks to our youth leaders, Ron and Erin, for their fantastic leadership of those kids.

Reverse Offering of Thanksgiving Groceries:
If you took a slip for the Thanksgiving grocery reverse offering, please remember to bring the groceries back either this Sunday or by November 22 at the latest.

Sunday School!
Sunday School Volunteers:
Our early elementary Sunday School class (pre-K through 2nd grade) needs a couple more volunteers to teach. The curriculum we are using is very teacher-friendly, providing detailed plans for the entire time you would be with the kids. If you are interested in teaching for a month or have questions, please talk to Pastor Kurt or Janet Crawford.

Harvest Dinner:
We will gather to give thanks and celebrate God's ongoing faithfulness to us in the fall harvest on Saturday, November 21 at 5:30 p.m. Please talk to Ruth or Claire about how many will be coming from your home and what you would be willing to bring to share.

That we might better pray for one another:

We pray for the shalom of the greater Binghamton area, and for guidance as to specific ways we as individuals and as a church might partner with God as stewards of his reign to cultivate that shalom in the city of our exile.
We pray for continued healing for Harriet Dimidio.
We pray for healing, patience, and peace for Holly Nelson, and energy and strength for the Nelson family.
We give thanks that the Kraft plant in Walton is going to stay open, and we pray for those Kraft employees at other plants who are still uncertain about the future of their plants and their employment with Kraft.
We pray for the participants and leadership of Faith & Finances, that they would experience transformation by the renewing of their minds in relation to finances.
We give thanks for Marcus Doller's successful surgery, and pray for a quick recovery.
We pray for the employees of the Kraft plants in New York, that God would grant them peace during this anxious time.
We pray for God's world: for those who are persecuted for their faith around the world, and for those who are being called to witness to Jesus Christ with their blood; for ongoing restoration, renewal, and justice for the people of Haiti; for God's miraculous intervention in the Middle East, that the hearts and minds of the people living there, and that whole cultures, would begin to bend toward peace, and that God's church would continue to proclaim and embody the good news of God's reign boldly there.
We pray for friends and family: we pray for healing for Adam Derzanovich; we pray for those battling cancer: for Jim and Marsha Conrad's friend Judy, for Marcus Doller's friend Scott, for Doug and Pat Aukema's nephew Charlie, for Jim Stocum's friend Pam, for Tilly Huizinga's client at Catholic Charities, for the DeYoungs' niece/cousin Terri.
