Creating a Strong Neighborhood

Dear PUSH Members & Neighbors,

We were scarred last month when we visited some haunted foreclosed homes in Buffalo. On almost every Friday of the month of October, we visited some foreclosed homes in the area to bring awareness to the issue of why we have abandoned properties in our neighborhoods. We also rallied in support of proposed NYS marijuana legalization legislation. Out of the marijuana arrests in the city of Buffalo last year, many of the people arrested were black and Hispanic.

Read on for details.

Foreclosure October

Some of the scariest foreclosures in America are right here in Buffalo NY. October was a scary month for the propagators of phantom properties in Buffalo. Some of these are properties that could be usable homes for needy families, but instead they sit idle as ghost properties that haunt and bring down the quality of life in our neighborhoods. We visited some foreclosed homes in the area to bring awareness to the issue of why we have abandoned properties in our neighborhoods. Many of these properties are in this condition because of the actions of big banks like Wells Fargo, and Bank of America. If you’re fed up like we are and you want to get involved, contact John Washington at 716-884-0356 or to join the fight.

Public Hearing on Marijuana Regulation & Taxation

Assembly Member Crystal Peoples-Stokes held a public meeting last month to discuss legalizing Marijuana in New York State. PUSH Buffalo and the Drug Policy Alliance mobilized people in the most affected communities to show up and tell their stories. In Buffalo 80% of Marijuana arrests are Black, this is a racial justice issue that is having a big impact on our community. Contact John Washington (716-884-0356, email to get involved in this very important community issue.

Beyond the Buffalo Billion: Grassroots Strategies for Economic Empowerment

Sometimes when you begin to scratch below the surface of something, you can begin to get a better view of the whole picture.

Much has been said about the "Buffalo billion" and what its impact will be on our local community here in Buffalo NY. But, does it mean anything, and who is really benefitting from this? Who wants to drive down the "high road" to local economic development or engage in economic, grassroots strategies that are lifting up our "poor, downtrodden and huddled masses"? And, who wants to drive down the "low road" to local economic development, a road full of unnecessary tolls, obstacles and pot holes - the road to nowhere for many of us?

Join us for a video screening and panel discussion on Monday November 9th, 7pm at Hallwalls Art Center, 341 Delaware Ave, Buffalo NY. Writers, real estate developers, advocates, and public officials will be in attendance. For more info contact Clarke at PUSH Buffalo, 716-884-0356 or

This Changes Everything - Buffalo NY Film Screenings

this changes bflo creenings 2015

We're doing 2 FREE public screenings of the documentary film "This Changes Everything" based on the best selling non-fiction novel written by author Naomi Klein.

"This Changes Everything, the film presents seven powerful portraits of communities on the front lines, from Montana’s Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond.

Interwoven with these stories of struggle is Klein’s narration, connecting the carbon in the air with the economic system that put it there. Throughout the film, Klein builds to her most controversial and exciting idea: that we can seize the existential crisis of climate change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better."

All across the state and the country people are speaking out, and taking action on their energy future. The big utility companies, big energy companies, big corporations, and politicians who don't have the community's best interest at heart are putting themselves in position to do things like take control over any new #renewableenergy options, and continue to rake in billion$$ of our dollars by charging us ridiculous amounts of money on our #utilitybills

What are you going to do about it? Join us on this important, life saving mission called #EnergyDemocracy. If you can't make it out to this film screening and you would like to get involved in this type of work, contact#PUSHBuffalo organizer Meghan at 716-884-0356 or email For info about this film screening contact Clarke at 716-884-0356 or email
