Dear PUSH Members & Neighbors,
The power of people power is one of the most underrated powers in the world. We are happy to have spent the last 10 years working on making Buffalo NY sustainable, just, and equitable. And, being able to lend our voices and talents to similar movements in not only this country but in other places around the world. We've got responsible banking efforts, High Road Development, Zumba, and more to talk about. Read on for details.
PUSH Monthly Meeting, February 2016
At our last monthly meeting we talked about the Key Bank and First Niagara bank merger. This merger has huge implications for Buffalo NY area residents like job loss and loss of banking services in poorer neighborhoods. This month we'll have something else in store but you'll have to be there to find out. Do you want to be a member of PUSH Buffalo? It costs just $5, and you can sign up at this meeting which starts at 3pm and happens Saturday February 20th at The Grant St Neighborhood Center, 271 Grant St.
Community Health: FREE Zumba at The Grant St Neighborhood Center
That's right a FREE community Zumba workout every week. This will usually happen every Thursday from 12-12:30pm at 271 Grant St. The workout will be led by Nicki Rodriguez our social work person interning with us.
Development By The People: Community Discussion on CBA's
Buffalo NY is making a comeback, but are you?
There's a lot of money being thrown around in Buffalo NY these days. New development is happening in Buffalo NY. Everywhere you look in downtown and in some areas of the city's old industrial core, shovels are in the ground, cranes are in the air, and new buildings are going up. State and local governments are making it rain million$$ of dollars on developers like it's nobody's business, but has this created opportunities like living wage work for the vast majority of us, or just a limited cash out for a privileged few?

Press Conference on Key Bank/First Niagara Merger
"We want banks to be allies in our communities, allies to help rebuild Buffalo, along with our communities,” said Bob Cook of PUSH Buffalo according to WIVB News Channel 4, Buffalo. Key Bank bought First Niagara Bank recently for the price of $4.1 billion dollars. This will have major implications in the city of Buffalo, especially in poorer neighborhoods. We are concerned that this will lead to, but not be limited to; job loss, closing of neighborhood branches leading to inadequate financial services, and limited banking access for refugees.
Big banking institutions with the power to create and lend money have achieved an almost monopolistic position in an important and often overlooked integral part of our lives - our money making, saving, and buying matters. We have been working to make banking institutions better community citizens by being
more accountable to the communities they serve. If you'd like to get involved in this campaign please call John at 716-884-0356 or email email@example.com
