Northwest Seaport is excited to share news with you regarding the fleet at the Historic Ships Wharf, programs aboard the vessels and organization highlights.  We invite you to help us improve this communication tool.



BOATWRIGHT-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM TO START: Projects support work on tugboat Arthur Foss.
Northwest Seaport and The Center for Wooden Boats launch Boatwright-In-Residence Program for recent boat building grads.
  • Pilot program gives new grads experience on the job and helps both organizations preserve historic boats in their collections.
  • Potential applicants are encouraged to call Northwest Seaport.
  • Resident boatwrights will live and work aboard historic tugboat Arthur Foss.

Nathaniel Howe2 2STAFF MEMBER PRESENTS TALK TODAY ON SWEDISH SHIP: Nathaniel Howe, Vessel Manager, presents at CWB
The October speaker at CWB’s “Third Friday Speaker Series” will be Nathaniel Howe with his talk Devil in the Details: New research on the historic Swedish warship Vasa.
  • Talk Details: Tonight at The Center for Wooden Boats, 7-10PM. Free.
  • Howe spent two years conducting research at the Vasa Museum as a Fulbright Scholar and an East Carolina University nautical archaeology student.
 

Elmore in SeattleGOLD RUSH TUGBOATS: Event draws hundreds.
In celebration of the tugboats Arthur Foss and Elmore Northwest Seaport hosted celebration to recognize their part in Klondike Gold Rush.

RESTORATION DEVELOPMENTS: 4Culture grant challenges NWS to raise funds for tugboat.
Northwest Seaport receives 4Culture 2012 Landmark Challenge Grants Program funds to support a systems revitalization project for Arthur Foss.

  • Schedule Ship Visit: View summer improvements on tugboat Arthur Foss this Sunday Oct 21, 10am - 4pm, during open Museum Ship hours.  Save the date: board tug on Saturday, November 24.

MOHAI TO OPEN DEC 29: armory 2Visitors to Northwest Seaport vessels to increase in 2013.
We need your help!  Foot traffic aboard vessels at Historic Ships Wharf will increase with opening of Museum of History & Industry. We encourage you to learn about and attend MOHAI opening events.
  • Help light up the Lightship 83 Swiftsure on a volunteer crew.
  • Join a volunteer work party to help wrap tugboat Arthur Foss in plastic to prevent exposure to winter rains.
  • Become a tugboat host and/or docent to help engage visitors.

MARITIME MUSIC    
Next Monthly Chantey Sing:percy_hilo100x100 2 Friday, November 9 at 8:00 PM with Percy Hilo!  Northwest Seaport Music Program Info.

  • Join the sing aboard the steamer Virginia V at Historic Ships Wharf.
  • Percy Hilo is a songwriter, singer, song collector, and folklorist who has been active in the Northwest for over 30 years.
