As previously mentioned, steam will be coming to Nicholson during the weekend of the 100th anniversary celebration of the Nicholson Bridge! While final details are just about worked out, we can share that there will be round-trip excursions operating from Steamtown National Historic Site to Binghamton, New York on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, 2015 (one excursion per day).

These excursions are a partnership between the Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Railway Historical Society, Inc., Norfolk Southern's 21st Century Steam Program, Steamtown National Historic Site, and Anthracite Railroads Historical Society. Proceeds from the excursions will go to the restoration of Boston & Maine #3713 steam restoration at Steamtown.

For each excursion, there will be a stop at Nicholson for passengers to visit 100th anniversary celebration activities. Passengers who detrain at Nicholson will be picked up on return of the train from Binghamton. Power for both trips will be former Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive #765 assisted by Anthracite Railroad Historical Society's A-B-A F-3 diesel locomotives.

Tickets, while not yet available, will be sold online at www.laurellinesspecials.org. Head back and check the webpage in late June, when tickets are expected to go on sale. We will also share updates when tickets become available! Feel free to tell family and friends to also sign up for these and all Celebration email updates at www.nicholsonbridge100th.com.

All partners include the Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Railway Historical SocietyNicholson Heritage Association, Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society, Anthracite Railroads Historical Society, Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society, Norfolk Southern Corporation, and Steamtown.

The entire schedule for the 100th anniversary celebration weekend is still being ironed out, and we expect to be able to share more detailed information in the coming weeks. Stay tuned and thank you for your patience!
