The Giving Brevard County Community

"Kids are also hungry on weekends"

If anyone tells you that Brevard County is not a giving community, tell them they are just wrong.  For potential volunteers willing to help, please consider viewing Phyllis Rhinehart's Volunteer Wish List.  Click here.

Local Companies Awarded Grants and Raised Money For The Children’s Hunger Project In November

GE Energy/GE Transportation/GE Healthcare not only awarded money, their corps of volunteers will have a special packing session to pack food items purchased with their grant money.  Deneen Edwards of GE Energy is also one of our regular volunteer packers.
eBayInc_Foundation eBay/GSI Commerce also showed remarkable community spirit by awarding us a generous grant in November.  Funding is provided through the eBay Foundation with guidance from the employee-volunteer led Melbourne GIVE Team at eBay/GSI Commerce.  1,250 packages of food will be provided to undernourished and hungry kids.
Rotary Club of Suntree gets it.  With the great success of their premier food event, The Great Tastes at Suntree, the Rotary Club of Suntree made a sizeable donation to The Children’s Hunger Project.  Numerous children will each receive a package of food each weekend during the school year as a direct result of this donation from Suntree Rotary and their community serving members.
The Junior League made The Children's Hunger Project an integral part of this year's annual holiday décor event, Festival of Trees.  This was a remarkable event and demonstrated again that Junior League of South Brevard is comprised of Women Building Better Communities.

The Brevard Hyundai Dealers, Coastal Hyundai and Cocoa Hyundai, along with Coastal Mitsubishi, are again sponsoring full-page newspaper ads for us in FLORIDA TODAY.  Watch for our ads on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.  Are you buying a car anywhere else?
Wuesthoff Medical Center staff members in Melbourne are really rolling up their sleeves to work for our kids.  Their beautiful tree has donation pledge cards that enable a person to donate directly to provide a package of food.  Plenty of supporting material about The Children’s Hunger Project in the lobby of Wuesthoff Medical Center.  Thanks to all the wonderful Angels at Wuesthoff.
The first annual Chowder Cook-Off sponsored by The Beach Shack on Ocean Avenue raised money for our kids.  The event took place at Ryckman Park in Melbourne Beach.  Thank you Beach Shack.
premiere_theater A number of our supporters attended the Premiere Theaters Oaks 10 special big screen showing of the classic movie The Polar Express.  Hats off to the Premiere Theaters Oaks 10 for making sure plenty of food was donated by patrons as their only admission “price”.

Our biggest roadblock is awareness!  Most people are not aware that there is a malnutrition and hunger issue right here in our own back yard.  Have your Facebook friends “Like” us on Facebook and visit our website. These simple acts are of great importance to help raise awareness of the issues.

With appreciation for the excitement generated by so many and with support of our Angels, this holiday season gives us much joy in spite of the hardships our young kids face.  You are making such a critical difference.

On behalf of those kids who have no voice, THANK YOU!

For Our Faithful Volunteers

Wednesday, December 19 from 4:00PM to 7:30PM and Thursday morning, December 20 from 10:00AM to 1:00PM, we will be packing at our facility on Sarno Road at Croton Road in Melbourne. Packing sessions are getting longer with the increase in our numbers but you do not have to be there for the full packing session.  Work as long as you wish and only to the extent that you have the strength.

Phyllis is looking for volunteers for some of our workload that is separate from our packing efforts. Please consider viewing Phyllis Rhinehart's Volunteer Wish List.  Click here.

The January packing schedule as been revised. We will be packing January 9, 23 and 24. January 10 was originally scheduled as a packing day, but that session has been cancelled.

IMPORTANT:  With our increase in food packages prepared, we are taking more space for storage. Less space is available for the actual packing and wrapping. We must limit the number of Angels that want to help us. If you are interested in participating in our packing sessions, please keep in touch with Phyllis Rhinehart who is in charge of all our volunteer activities.

Her email address is:

Phyllis will know when we have reached the "limit" at any packing session. Usually the Thursday morning sessions are attended by fewer volunteers.
