Letter from the President
This week, I travel to Vienna to attend meetings with UNIDO, and another international NGO, to share with them the wonderful work we are doing internationally. UNIDO is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability. We are looking for grants, and I believe that with the level of commitment and transparency we have in our operation, many organizations can work with us.
I am using this opportunity to meet with local philanthropists in Vienna this Sunday at 2 PM in Cafe Macchiato. Please let your friends in Vienna know about this event since I will present them with information about Child Foundation and our plans in helping children in need in Afghanistan, Indonesia, Iran, and soon in Africa and other southeast Asian countries.
We recently received news from Tehran that the price of paper has increased. This is very important news to us since it will have a direct effect for families we support in purchasing school supplies. Soon, summer will be over and schools will start. Therefore, we are planning to see how we can tackle this new problem and help children we support in providing them with tools for their education. I will keep you updated about our “Back to School” initiative. Meanwhile, our “1000 Food Baskets” is going strong. If you have not donated to this wonderful cause, please do. Our offices in Mazar-e-Sharif, and many cities of Iran, have already started distributing their baskets. You still have time to donate and help families in need with a few baskets of food.

We Still Need Your Help for 1,000 Food Baskets
As our colleagues are distributing food baskets in Afghanistan, various cities of Iran, and among children we support in Indonesia, we are continuing to collect donations for another couple of weeks.
Our “1,000 Food Baskets” fund coincides with the month of Ramadan, which is the traditional month of fasting, but also of genuine selflessness and display of charity to others. Child Foundation is not a religious organization, nor does it ever get involved with projects like this on religious or ideological grounds. What we are doing is providing the most basic of necessities, such as food, for families with children at a time of the year when food prices are at the highest, the need is great, and pressure simply too much to bear alone.

Afghanistan Food Baskets
Our office in Afghanistan had a very succesful fundraising week in Mazar-e-Sharif. With collected donations and some help from the US office, they prepared and distributed over three hundred food baskets to help families of children we support and some additional families in need.
We would like to thank all of our wonderful and kind volunteers who, despite the hot weather in Mazar-e-Sharif, spent more than a week in our unique fundraising tent.
From MIT with Love
A group of MIT students and graduates have decided to support a group of young students in Iran. They have selected a group of Iranian students who have just been accepted to universities, and sent them several MIT notebooks, T-shirts, and small gifts along with their monthly sponsorship donations.
They want to be very involved with the young university students and provide them with mentoring, support, and advice in order to be sure that they stay motivated to continue their education. All four students are from Zabol, one of the most deprived cities in the country.
Hi, I'm Abolfazl!
Abolfazl is eleven years old and from the city of Zabol. After his father was sentenced to life in prison, Abolfazl's mother has become the family's sole caretaker. Abolfazl and his family are struggling financially, and he needs your help to continue his studies.
Please consider helping this young student so that he may continue to attend school.
See more children waiting for sponsorship.
Thank You, Joe.
Remember Rana? A beautiful girl who, along with her mother Somayeh, were victims of an acid attack from her father.
Last week, we recieved a donation from a donor, Joe, toward Rana's medical fund. In his email, Joe asked, "Please ask the local social worker to convey my heartfelt sympathy for Somayeh's passing, and my best wishes for Rana, her sister, and the rest of the family." Rana and her family were moved by this act of generosity and asked our office in Bam to print their thank you note in English for Joe.
We would also like to say thank you, Joe.
Child Foundation is continuing in the support of children in Nepal. We started to work with an additional partner, PASHA, who is mostly involved in the health care of the children in need. Our first instalment for their humanitarian work has been sent to PASHA, and we will continue to work together to raise additional donations, awareness, and provide much needed help for children whose lives have been affected by the tragic earthquake.
The mission of PASHA (Persian-American Society of Health Advancement) is to empower communities in need and enable them to provide affordable, high quality, healthcare to their members. Child Foundation and PASHA are developing unique plans to help children's health in Nepal.
This summer Child Foundation will hold several classes as a summer camp for children living in the LA area. We will have Farsi, music, theater, painting, and dance classes all taught by teachers in their field.
Please contact our LA office for additional information at 310-453-0809.
Classes will be held in the CF hall in Tarzana, CA.
