Hip, Hip, Hooray!

New! T.E.A.C.H. now covers more of your costs.  T.E.A.C.H. now pays 75% of tuition (90% for family child care providers), recipients pay 10%, and centers pay 15%. Many current recipients and sponsors received an adjustment resulting in either a re-payment or a credit on an outstanding bill.  In addition, T.E.A.C.H. bonuses are now an additional $100 and we’ve increased our release time reimbursement rate from $10 to $12.50 per hour.

If you have any questions, please direct them to your counselor or find answers on the WECA web site.  Help us spread the good news to friends, colleagues, and other programs:  Credit-based education is affordable with T.E.A.C.H. support!

NAEYC's Week of the Young Child 2015

What are your plans?  April 12-18, “Celebrate Our Youngest Learners… and their Teachers!” during Week of the Young Child.  Engage families and make your important work with young children visible in your community!

Check out activity suggestions and a template for a postcard designed to share with families your program's celebrations and how they may join in the FUN!  Additional ideas are on the NAEYC website.  Also, check with your local WECA affiliate, child care resource and referral agency, local support groups, or others for community-wide events being planned in your area.

State Budget Advocacy

Child Care in the State Budget: What does it mean to you?  Budgets are about priorities.   We look at how much money we have and decide how to spend it.  When people say we don’t have the money to do more for young children, they are really saying that other things are more important.

If you believe early education should be a higher priority, now is your time, as the Wisconsin legislature develops the 2015-17 state budget, to advocate on behalf of our children, families, and our profession.  It's your legislator's job to listen to you!   Find your legislator here by entering your address.  You can:
  • Send a written note or email to your legislator asking for a bigger investment in early education.
  • Let your legislator know how important T.E.A.C.H. is to you by sharing your personal story.  Explain how the opportunities provided by T.E.A.C.H. have impacted your life and work.
  • Join the Forward for Kids Campaign e-network of advocates.  We’ll keep you posted if there are specific actions to take.
Note:  The Governor’s proposed budget calls for an $8 million increase in Wisconsin Shares, which doesn’t begin to make up for frozen reimbursement rates from 2006 until fall 2014.  The Early Learning Coalition is asking for a $40 million increase in each of the 2 years of the upcoming budget.
