Week of the Young Child

Week of the Young Child is April 6-12, 2014!  How will you be celebrating?  Check the NAEYC website for more information about this week and some ideas to try.  Imagine child care programs in communities all across the country making themselves and the children and families they serve really visible during this week.  We know that what we do makes a difference, so let’s use this week to tell others!  For all of you who are WECA members, find out if your local affiliate has anything planned… and get on board!

Professional Development Luncheon

Don’t miss the opportunity to nominate your favorite early childhood professional for an “Above and Beyond” Award.  Find the nomination form here. These awards are given at a special luncheon at the annual WECA conference November 13-15, 2014.

News from Counselor

LAST REMINDER:  Students on AA and BA scholarships MUST apply for federal financial aid by April 15, 2014.  You are required by T.E.A.C.H. to accept any grants that are offered; accepting loans is optional.  Accepting grants is good for you and your program; it means the percentage you pay towards your T.E.A.C.H. scholarship is decreased.  Go to www.fafsa.gov .

Summer plans.  Will you be continuing your education over the summer?  Planning in advance helps assure that you can access a DBA (direct billing authorization), so T.E.A.C.H. can pay tuition directly to your college rather than reimbursing you for your payment.  Early registrations also increase your chances of getting the coursework of your choice.
