EMBARQ and UN-Habitat Partner to Support Sustainable Urban Mobility
The United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN–Habitat) and EMBARQ are partnering to create more sustainable cities by working to provide universal access to safe, clean and affordable transport. The new initiative will focus on the needs of poor and vulnerable groups, and finding more ways to incorporate transport into broader land use planning and implementation. (read more)
Forming a New Global Partnership at the First Asia BRTS Conference
The first Asia BRTs Conference was held in the city of Ahmedabad, India, on September 6-8, 2012. The event included a discussion on establishing the Asia BRTs Association (ABA), which will serve as an international forum for cooperation, knowledge sharing and business development on bus rapid transit (BRT), following the example of the Latin American Association of Integrated Transport Systems and BRT (SIBRT), for which EMBARQ serves as Technical Secretariat. Talking Transit: Driver Training, Fuel Efficiency and Vehicle Maintenance
Representatives from more than 20 city bus transport agencies, private operators and other stakeholders, including organizations in Indore, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Rajkot and Naya Raipur, attended a two-day training workshop conducted by EMBARQ India with support from the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), in Visakhapatnam on August 30-31, 2012. The Sustainable Transport Community Remembers Lee Schipper
The Schipper Family and EMBARQ created the “Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship for Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency.” The scholarship committee is now accepting donations, which will support work of individual researchers and students committed to Lee’s vision. (read more)
