Dear Preserve Calavera Supporter

Community Benefit Agreement In Carlsbad

We were part of the long and complicated process that resulted in a formal agreement, see link: agreement, between community organizations, the city and a developer.  Our concerns with a potentially damaging project were addressed.  But so were many broader issues.  The big winner was the community of Carlsbad who will get more natural open space, a park in a park poor neighborhood, and completion of a missing link of road important for public safety.  We hope this is a model for collaboration that gets repeated not just in Carlsbad, but throughout the region.

Climate Change March Event – April 29, 2017

Natural open spaces and their inhabitants suffer from habitat loss and climate change.  Preserve Calavera feels strongly that we must do all we can to address scientifically-documented climate change especially through reducing human-generated greenhouse gasses. Because of this concern, we’ve signed onto the National People’s Climate March on April 29 to demand a world safe from the ravages of climate change, with good jobs, clean air and water and healthy communities for all.  We are proud to join with dozens of local and national organizations to make this the largest climate mobilization in San Diego history.

We hope you will volunteer to be part of the Preserve Calavera group at this event.  We’d like to organize a group to travel to San Diego for this event.  If you would like to participate, please contact Paige at pdecino@preservecalavera.org.

Here are the details of the actual march:

Land Acquisition Fund Campaign

IMG_4585This month we received another $ 6054 for our land acquisition fund - thanks to you we have now reached 25 % of our goal of  $ 30,000 !   Right now there are three potential acquisitions with willing sellers.  It is a long process to make this happen.  But one of the keys to success is having local community support and dollars that can leverage the millions that are needed.  Remember every donation is being matched up to our $ 30k goal. We can sit by and watch more and more lands lost to development- or we can do our best to save a few critical acres- for us and future generations.  With your help we will do just that !  For more information, see flyer.

Accomplishments 2000-2016

We recently updated our list of key accomplishments (link to list)  through 2016-  shows what a group of committed volunteers can do !  Please take a few minutes to review this- and let us know how you would like to get involved in our ongoing work to preserve and restore our natural lands, protect wildlife, and address climate change.  With your help we can do even more in the next 17 years !
