Project Inspire

Things are building up in a big way here at the farm. We are excited to announce our partnership with NVIDIA, a leading Silicon Valley technology company, for the 6th annual Project Inspire. Each year NVIDIA employees trade in their holiday party, and instead descend en masse on a community project. During 2 days in December, 1500 volunteers will build out the infrastructure to expand the Veggielution farm from 2 acres to 6. They will be building a permanent Farm Stand, a teaching kitchen, a produce washing and packing shed, installing irrigation in the new acreage, planting native hedgerows, and much much more.

Through Project Inspire, NVIDIA is investing over $300,000 in making healthy food more available in our community. With rates of diet-related disease climbing steadily every year, we need to come together as a community and support each other in transforming the way we eat. Veggielution is a hub for this community, where people connect over the simple acts of growing and eating food together. Project Inspire is a real game-changer for the farm - enabling us to grow and expand much more quickly than we would have been able to otherwise. Thank you NVIDIA!

State of the Farm

The next two months will be very busy for the farm crew. We’re tearing out summer crops and planting our alliums – bulb onions and garlic – as well as many more brassicas including cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale and others. Most importantly though, we’re setting the groundwork for two major workdays in December where 1500 volunteers will be on the farm as part of Nvidia’s Project Inspire.

On those two days, many major projects will be completed that will enable us to expand our farm operation during the 2013 season. So that means we have a lot of prep work to do in terms of planning and site preparation. If we’re not out in the fields doing weekly crop maintenance, we’ll be plotting out the new fields, and preparing the sites for each of the new buildings mentioned above.

Stories from the Ground: Meet Diego

As a loyal Veggielution crew member I will be using these opportunities to continue our group’s mission by developing our own thoughts and ideas about local and healthy food habits, and including as much local knowledge and discourse as possible. With the amount of growth on the horizon through NVIDIA's Project Inspire events in early December, there is sure to be lots of exciting changes on the farm. This next year as a new Americorp member will prove to be an excited time of growth not only for me but the farm as well.

I'm excited to be a part of the crew and community that contributes to make this place a working success. By the end of my term I would like to have this place and local surrounding area feel like my second home. Hope to see you on the farm!
