I am writing to inform you of the publication of an opinion piece by Joanna Cuevas Ingram, Equal Justice Works Voting Rights Fellow, entitled “Holder’s voting remarks hit home” (print version) and “Holder’s call for repeal of ex-convict voting laws hits home” (online version).
In the article Joanna contextualizes remarks recently made by Attorney General Eric Holder regarding current restrictions that limit access to the vote for formerly incarcerated persons, and as addressed in Scott v. Bowen, a lawsuit filed by LCCR and the ACLU of California charging the state with unconstitutionally stripping tens of thousands of people of their right to vote.
The op-ed appears in today’s (February 14, 2014) edition of the legal newspaper, “Daily Journal”. To read it on our website, please click here.
As always, thank you for your support of the Lawyers’ Committee.
