Honor Africa Night is a salute to the importance and beauty of Africa,” related Jean Lehman, exhibit curator and Museum board member.  “Colors of East Africa" focuses on eight countries along the Great Rift Valley.  Honor Africa Night is about respect and recognition, with all residents of the continent appreciated and valued.”   The VIP and Members-Only Reception from 4-6 pm will be followed by free admission for the public from 6-9 pm as part of Fort Collins Gallery Walk.

FREE Storytime at GVM
Sat, Feb 3     11 – 12 pm

Global Village Museum cordially invites youth ages 3-10 for a FREE Storytime from 11 am to noon on Saturday, Feb 3.  A delightful East African story, animal craft, and tasty treat will round out the hour of fun and imagination.  Two parents and/or guardians are admitted free with each child to tour the Museum’s four galleries and Museum Shop.

Keen on Kenya
Feb 10      1 - 3 pm

Two experts from Colorado State University will explore Kenya on Feb. 10 at the Global Village Museum as part one of four in the East Africa Program Series.  Kathleen Galvin, Professor and Director of CSU's Africa Center, and David Swift, Senior Research Scientist with the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory, will be speaking from 1-3 pm.  Galvin will discuss community-based conservancies in Kenya while Swift will analyze the South Turkana Ecosystem Project in the 1980s.  The program is in conjunction with the Museum's Main Gallery exhibit, Colors of East Africa.

John & Kathleen's (Global Village Board Members) Great Adventure....Dec 15, 2017 - May 12, 2018 has begun.  In February they will explore New Zealand and Australia before heading to Indonesia.  John has joined the choir and Kathleen is enjoying the dance classes.  They are both enjoying the cultures of the different docks they have explored.  Below are a few pictures they have sent of their trip!

The Lyric Country Film Festival
Feb 4 - 6

The Lyric Cinema will be hosting a Country Film Festival to showcase films from African countries from Sunday, Feb 4 to Tuesday, Feb 6.  Proceeds from the event will be donated to Colorado African Organization (CAO), which supports Colorado’s refugee, immigrant, and asylum-seeking populations in their pursuit of integration, self-sufficiency, and freedom.  For more information and to buy tickets.


Friends of the Symphony Annual Musical Zoo
Sunday, Feb 11, 2018 at Timberline Church
2:00  – 4:30 pm
Admission $2

A children’s event featuring a variety of musical entertainment, short performances, and a “Petting Zoo” where children can hold and play various instruments.  The grand finale, Mother Goose Tales, will be performed by the Fort Collins Symphony, directed by Maestro Wes Kenney, and accompanied by theatrical narration and dance by the Canyon Concert Ballet troupe.
