Dear Member,

Happy Thanksgiving! Our November meeting in San Mateo included the participation of a remote chapter member, Blond Jenny from New Jersey, visiting San Francisco for an art opening. Another remote member, Sherri Cornett from Billings, Montana, was also in San Francisco over the weekend. Our chapter has grown beyond its geographic borders with members residing as far away as Dusseldorf, Germany. Those outside of the Bay Area are encouraged to email our chapter when they plan a visit. We would love to meet you or include you in a meeting or activity.

YEAR-END PARTY THURSDAY DECEMBER 28!

jujuLong-time members agree: the annual year-end party at Judy Johnson-Williams' studio is a much-anticipated affair. Certain traditions have continued from year to year just because we love them. The act of writing down unpleasant, sad, icky things that happened in 2017, then twisting that evil paper and burning it over a small fire is a cleansing experience. The planning and plotting, the choosing of an odd-ball object lying about in the studio, concealing said item inside a mysterious box or artful wrapping, making the outside appearance so irresistably attractive that White Elephant players would fight for it, these are things that occupy some of our minds during the year. To top it off, we look forward to indulging in the pleasure of sitting at a communal table to make impromptu art with piles of pens, scraps, scissors, paints, brushes and glue in hand. Bring a potluck item to share. The wearing of ugly sweaters optional. Starts at 6 pm at 347 Lewis Street, Oakland. Carpool encouraged!

REPRESENT NCWCA AT THE 2018 WCA CONFERENCE

ArtSpeakslogoCONFERENCE copyAs we do each year, NCWCA is awarding a $200 stipend to a 2018 member to represent our chapter at the upcoming National WCA Conference, "Art Speaks! Lend Your Voice" in Los Angeles. The conference will be held February 22-24 2018. The awardee is expected to participate in all of the WCA events, represent our chapter at the Chapters Council meeting  and report back to the chapter on what they learned so that those who couldn't go get a taste of the fun & excitement.
Write not more than 500 words explaining why you should be awarded the stipend. Email your response to elizabethaddison@sbcglobal.net with "NCWCA Stipend" in the subject line. To the extent possible, this stipend will be awarded to a member who has not previously represented our chapter at the annual conference. The deadline for application is January 5, 2018.
