Greetings NCWCA Member

Thanksgiving is around the corner and we have many things to be thankful for. Congratulations members for upcoming exhibitions all over the Bay Area and beyond. Works selected for Choice will be arriving at Arc Gallery shortly. We are making plans for the year-end party. And many are making travel plans to attend Balance, the 2014 National WCA Conference in Chicago. It's a great time to be an NCWCA member!

"BALANCE" CONFERENCE INFORMATION

balance word logo copy
The theme for the 2014 national conference in Chicago is "Balance." The program offers a variety of events and exhibitions around the theme of motherhood, balancing work and art practice, and balancing programs offered by WCA with those offer by College Art Association and The Feminist Art Project.
We are honoring Phyllis Bramson, Harmony Hammond, Adrian Piper, and Faith Wilding with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Janice Nesser-Chu and Hye-Seong Tak Lee with the President's Art & Activism Award in February.
Attending the national conference is a wonderful way to connect with other WCA members from all over the country and from outside the US. You will also be able to join special interest caucuses such as The Jewish Women Artists Network (JWAN), Eco-Art, Young Women, and International. If you have an interesting in getting involved with one of these caucuses, the annual conference is an excellent time to do it.
The very best conference deal is the $240 earlybird package which includes everything but the board meeting. This specially priced package is only available through January 6, 2014.

ESSEX INN SPECIAL $89
WCA negotiated a fabulous members-only price of $89 a night at the Essex Inn, right next door to the Chicago Hilton where CAA will host their conference. There are a limited number of rooms available and the special rates are only good until December 18, 2013 or until they sell out, whichever is sooner.  Use this link to make your reservations: https://res.windsurfercrs.com/bbe/page2.aspx?pcode=WBL075&propertyid=13215&nights=1&checkin=02/10/2014&group=1402WCAATT. Celebration of Craftswomen

craftswomen 2

The Women's Building in San Francisco invited NCWCA to have a booth at their annual Celebration of Craftswomen show at Ft Mason on November 9-11. This was the first time the Women's Building had invited arts-based nonprofits to their event, and we were happy to partner with them. Kelly Hammargren created NCWCA volunteer teeshirts and a large banner, Judy Shintani made NCWCA buttons, Miwako Nishizawa made membership sign up sheets, Sandy Yagi taught us how to use Paypal Here, and Priscilla Otani made recruiting postcards. Judy Johnson-Williams created a slideshow of WCA events and brought her laptop and and projector on her bicycle from the East Bay. Through Volunteerspot April Hankins, Juliet Mevi, Gretchen Blais, Judy Johnson-Williams, Judy Shintani, Kelly Hammargren, Hilla Hueber, Anne Shulenberger and Priscilla Otani signed up for table-sitting and promoting NCWCA.  We were pleased that many craftswomen and visitors wanted to know about NCWCA. Kelly handed out postcards for the upcoming Choice show. Afterwards, Hilla emailed everyone who signed our sign-sheet and invited them to join NCWCA and Priscilla sent a thank you note to Judy Stone at the Women's Building. The weekend was a great opportunity to get our chapter known to a broader audience and the warm camaraderie among the volunteers. Pictured above: Juliet Mevi, April Hankins and Gretchen Blais.
