Church Life

WOMEN’S MOVIE NIGHT CANCELLED…  Due to the bad weather and icy road conditions this week, we are cancelling our Movie Night for Friday, January 20th. We hope to reschedule the event for some time in the future.

KUSTER FUND DRIVE…  This is the Sunday (Jan. 22nd) that we asked to have any gift you might have for the Kuster Fund Drive – or a pledge slip for it – turned in.  Remember we have an anonymous OEFC donor who has pledged matching funds up to $10,000.  If you have lost your green pledge slip, we have additional ones available on the Foyer table.  Please do not put a duplicate slip in the offering basket unless it is for an additional gift. (Checks should be made out to OEFC with Kuster Fund in the memo line. Cash should be in an envelope, labeled  Kuster)

PARKING CARS …AND PEOPLE… Hopefully last week’s lower attendance was due to icy weather, work, or travel, and not a result of this announcement…  Hopefully the bad weather is behind us and we will have a full house & parking lot this Sunday!

We love to have both parking spots and chairs filled here at OEFC!  We also love to have visitors and guests that are looking for a church to be a part of.  If you are able to, we would ask that you help us by filling the upper parking lot first on Sunday mornings so that new people do not have to look around for parking spots. (Our seniors and those who have trouble with the stairs are welcome to park in the lower lot.) You can also help by sitting toward the front and to the center of the rows, so people don’t have to climb over you to get to a seat or group of seats.  Thank you for your help in make people feel welcomed.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY…  It’s that time of year – another western Washington winter is upon us and we never know quite what to expect in road conditions.  If the conditions appear to be icy and/or snowing on any Sunday morning, here are 2 ways to check on the status of our services.

1) If you have access to the internet, we encourage you to check the Church website (www.oefc.org) for info regarding whether or not the conditions have warranted the cancellation of services.  You will find it in the “Announcements” link on the website by 8 AM if we are calling off the services.

2) If you do not have access to the internet, you can call the Church at 598-3400 ~ AFTER 8:00 AM on a Sunday morning.  There will be a new voicemail message recorded if we’re not meeting.

We do not want to be too hasty in cancelling services, but if the weather is already starting to deteriorate on a Saturday evening, we will begin the update process at 7 PM.  You can check the Church website or call the Church voicemail to see if a decision has been made to cancel.  The website may simply say something like, “No changes yet; check back later.”  The voicemail will not change until a cancellation decision is made. The OEFC Leadership will be monitoring the weather & road conditions throughout Saturday evening and early Sunday morning. If, and when, a decision is made to cancel, both the website and voicemail will be changed immediately.

OEFC ANNUAL MEETING…  We encourage all members & regular attenders to attend our OEFC Annual Meeting THIS Tuesday, Jan. 24th, at 7 PM.  On the agenda will be voting on the Council of Ministers’ Proposed Budget and discussing plans for 2012.  If you did not get a copy of the 2012 Proposed Budget last week…or if you requested a full copy of the 2011 Annual Report – see Donna Raaberg on Sunday!

PASTOR’S CLASS…  If you are considering membership or have questions about it, please contact the Church Office (office@oefc.org) or write a note on your yellow “Welcome Card” on Sunday.  Pastor’s Classes are offered when we have several who have expressed their interest – so far we have a couple who have responded.

The class provides an opportunity for attenders —whether newcomers or those who’ve been here a while—to learn more about OEFC’s doctrine and ministries.  It will also serve as a foundation toward membership if you’d like to become a member of OEFC.  **Please let us know if childcare will be needed.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY… Our Women’s Bible Study will be resuming on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 10 AM in the Upper Room with a new study topic.  Please join us as we learn how to develop a closer friendship with God.  Questions?  Contact the Church Office (office@oefc.org) or Margaret Raub.

SAVE THE DATE… for a very special OEFC Valentine Dessert event Sunday evening, Feb. 12th.  Watch for tickets & more details!

ABF CLASS…  Our Adult Bible Fellowship class meets Sunday mornings from 9:00-9:45, in the Upper Room (upstairs at the end of the hall on the left).  We invite you to join us for our new series on The Feasts of the Lord.

“SURELY GOODNESS and MERCY SHALL  (using tracts)

follow me all the days of my life”:   It can be, but is it true for everyone we know?

A beautiful new tract entitled, “The Lord is My Shepherd” is available in the foyer to give to someone who needs to hear this message anew.

Many we know have even memorized this Psalm from childhood.  Yet they now fail in having it be a reality for their lives.  Shall we help them to “dwell in the house of the Lord forever”?

OEFC PRAYER TEAM…  If you’d like to join our Prayer Team, praying for the needs shared by our OEFC Family, please see Donna Raaberg or make note of it on your yellow Welcome card.  Prayer requests are sent out by email to our Pastors, Elders and our wonderful team of Prayer Warriors throughout the week.

YOUTH SUNDAY…  Our OEFC Youth will be leading the service on Sunday, Jan. 29, and we will be highlighting both our youth and our children that morning.  It should be a very special service and we hope you will join us!

A NOTE OF THANKS…  Estelle Harris and her daughter, Marcia Daughtry thank everyone for all the beautiful cards and flowers that were received for Estelle’s 90th birthday. They were thrilled at the thoughtfulness of their OEFC family.

In the Community

BACKPACK BUDDIES…  Many of the kids at Woodlands Elementary (where Kristi Kreifels teaches) come from homes that are really struggling – 30 students are homeless.  These are kids who qualify for free breakfast & lunch, but may not have adequate food to eat over the weekend.  We are sponsoring a Backpack Buddies program with a goal of providing 20 Woodlands students-in-need with kid-friendly, shelf-stable, easy-to-prepare, and nutritionally-sound items that are transportable in a backpack. Students will be selected for the program by the school’s administration & staff to receive a backpack of food every weekend for 20 weeks. We will be asking OEFC people to bring in specific food items each month. We had a GREAT response from you to this outreach request last Sunday, but we still have a few items that are needed – see the display on the Foyer table!  Remember – this project will be continuing for the rest of the school year. Food items for the coming month should be brought in by NEXT Sunday, Jan. 29th.  Questions?  Contact Jeff or Kristi Kreifels, or see Nadine Mogg on Sunday.

PENINSULA MEN’S GOSPEL SINGERS will be in concert Sunday, Jan. 22nd at 3:00 PM at Keyport Bible Church. Hear the “vibrant rich sound of disciplined men’s voices singing with energy and conviction. What a total delight!” Admission by Donation.

FOOD BANK DONATIONS… We collect your donations for the Central Kitsap Food Bank year-round.  There is a green tub in the Foyer closet for your canned food and other non-perishable items.  Flour, sugar, etc… the kitchen staples… are always needed, as well as canned meats, veggies, pasta, fruit, etc.
